The railway and native and natural heritage are both shown on the shield. The heraldic fess, or central band, has a special edge that looks like a conifer twig. This edge was made by a Finnish heraldic artist. The fess is a path, and the edge shows the city's green spaces and how local forests continue to provide wealth and other benefits. The red steam locomotive wheel and the two gold bands, which are the color of business, draw attention to the railroad. The Coquitlam River, which gives the city its name, is honored in the upper part of the shield. "Little red fish" is what the Aboriginal word for Coquitlam means.

The city's official colors, white and green, are used to make a wreath around the crest. It is made up of a mural coronet, which is a symbol of city government. The crown has six anchors, but only three are visible. These anchors represent ships and maritime trade, and the word "port" in the city's name comes from this.

On the other collar is an azalea, which is the flower that represents the city. Each collar has a Salish spindle whorl on it to honor the Stahlo people. A picture of a silver salmon is carved into the whorl. The original motto of the city is written on a scroll above. lets know more...
